28.0 x 24.0cms, 672pp, original brown cloth, gilt lettering to spine & gilt device to upper board, illustrated with photogravure plates, maps & plans; cloth worn & marked with some rubbing & light staining, spine dulled but lettering legible. Internally, moderate foxing throughout, heavier to endpapers, with occasional spotting extending into text & plates; edges toned. Binding firm. Contemporary previous owner's inscription, 1935. First published for general circulation, following the privately printed 1926 edition.
